Like a woman, one of my wishes was to have a beautiful, shiny, long hair. When I first started to use natural hair products, free of sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, etc. my hair wasn’t in its best shape.
My locks looked dull and lifeless, there were thinning areas on my scalp and I couldn’t manage to grow my hair long. Oh, and almost forgot – persistent dandruff.
Now, a few years later, my hair is long, shiny, flexible, no more itchy scalp, no more dandruff, no more thinning hair. Everything is thanks to the natural hair products and the homemade treatments I use.
I realized, from my own experience, that the chemically developed hair products damage the hair shaft and irritate the scalp, stripping the natural hair oils that are essential for healthy scalp and strands.
I will share with you my favorite recipes for homemade shampoos and conditioners, which are the perfect complement to the natural hair products.
Two recipes for homemade hair shampoo for normal or dry hair – clean and nourish:
Apply a well-beaten egg yolk mixed with a half cup of cognac and a half cup of warm water onto the scalp and massage it thoroughly; spread the mixture to the length of the hair; leave it for ten minutes and rinse with warm water.
A good alternative to the conventional shampoos is the yoghurt. Apply it all over the scalp and the locks and leave it to dry. Then rinse. Yogurt fights dandruff, calms itchy scalp and makes hair silky and shiny.
Homemade shampoo for oily hair:
Beat well four egg whites and massage the scalp with the foam. Leave it for fifteen minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. To avoid scrambled eggs in your hair, do not use warm or hot water. For a final rinse use a liquid made of a cup of water and a cup of rum.
Baking soda cleans effectively all hair types. Just add four tsp. to an 8 oz. bottle of water and shake it well to dissolve. You can make the solution more concentrated, depends on your hair type. Pour over your hair, starting from the scalp, massage a few minutes and rinse. Baking soda successfully calms itchy and eliminates germs, bacteria and fungus.
DIY hair conditioners for dry hair:
Mayonnaise is an exceptional hair conditioner for dry hair. Spread it on your scalp and locks thoroughly, leave it for ten minutes and rinse it carefully with lukewarm water first.
Mix one egg, one tbsp. of vinegar and two tbsp. of olive oil. Massage the scalp, apply to the strands, cover your head with a plastic cap and wrap it with a towel; leave it for at least 30 minutes. Rinse well and follow with a gentle hair shampoo.
Conditioning for all hair types – massage the scalp with slightly heated coconut oil, cover thoroughly the hair, and pay particular attention to the ends. If it is possible, leave it overnight or at least a few hours. Wash with a good shampoo and warm water. Coconut oil conditions, nourishes, and helps to prevent split ends.
For oily hair, add two tbsp. of vinegar to the water for the final rinse. Vinegar is an excellent conditioner for oily hair and gently clarifies, without stripping the strands; adds shine and helps to eliminate dandruff. It could be replaced by lemon juice – it makes lifeless hair vivid and radiant.
A tip: Essential and natural oils could be added to the conventional shampoos and conditioners to enrich them. Add 0.3 oz. of natural oil and 4-5 drops of essential oil to 3 oz. of hair product.
